Troubled by the memory of my auntie and cousins, who’d been visiting us in Uganda as the tensions were rising in Rwanda ahead of the Arusha agreements. My auntie’s husband worked in the government and told her things were going well and that see and the kids should come back home.
On April 3rd, 1994, they made the trip back home to Rwanda. When news of the genocide broke, the phones didn’t stop ringing as mum checked up on them until they couldn’t be reached at about this time on April 7th. We would hear that they were “lucky” to be shot to death but their house brought down on them so there would be no trace that they were ever here.
They live in our hearts forever and we will never forget the great times shared😃.
