In Primary and Secondary school imwe were taught is the government of the people, for the people by the people. In fact if anyone got that question wrong in an exam, they would get some canes.
As the President and some of us are bombarded with questions of what’s going to happen come 2017, I’m reminded of those lessons in class on what Democracy is. Today, my driver told me that if he had a chance to speak to President Kagame, he’d tell him that leaving the president would have let him down – a sentiment I hear from many Rwandans young and old.
Now democracy is looked at in terms of term limits, particularly by the West, where’s what I was taught was that it’s about the will of the people, what is best for them! Only time will tell what Rwandans will decide come 2017… 😃
