After a long and especially exhausting year and the worst cold I’ve ever had, I needed a break in the midst of family duties which usually happens during the festive season. There’s a place tucked away in the heart of Kampala city which always provides the perfect R&R environment in the midst of too much. At Kampala Serena Hotel, you are guaranteed to leave rejuvenated and occasionally, it can turn into a romantic experience. Who doesn’t want these, right? ๐๐๐
I arrived at the Kampala Serena hotel before the New Year celebrations begun. It was a full house! As usual, smiles welcomed me, Mawazo and Simon, some of the sweetest gentleman you will ever meet, were there everyone busy serving someone, yet they stop to greet you. It didn’t take long for them to notice my stuffiness and immediately the world famous dawa tea was on order. As room details were being sorted out, I was whisked away to The Lakes and the dawa tea, a mix of ginger, lemon and honey, was at the table. This is exactly what a doctor ordered.
It was a beautiful sunny morning and I couldn’t resist a walk in the beautifully manicured gardens complete with ponds accompanied by music from the birds and frogs. Few things are as soothing as a nature walk and Kampala Serena gardens are known to put a smile on many faces. In fact it is common place to find newly weds choosing the gardens for picturesque greenery for wedding day memories.
Today was no different and we couldn’t help but be reminded of our special day. There we were, walking hand-in-hand, lost in smiles as we reminisced and this kicked off an unplanned romantic weekend๐.
Off to the room, beautiful suite with a balcony facing the fountain ponds whose sound would be your lullaby.
A beautifully fruit basket, some wine (which I will be regifting๐) and more dawa tea๐๐พ. There’s also the inviting king bed complete white linens and pillows whose thread count you can’t even imagine because when they kiss your skin, you never want to leave.
The atmosphere, especially during the festive season is truly something. Following a busy day visiting with family complete with beautiful fireworks to usher in 2016, the city is quiet๐๐พ๐. A rare gift in Kampala, perfect for R&R. Looking to up the romance for a day, here are few suggestions. Start off the day with breakfast at The Lakes – there are some secluded tents outside complete with beautiful greenery and birds chirping away.
After breakfast, you can take a stroll in the gardens. Lunch approaches before you know it and there are 3 restaurants to chose from plus great room service options. After lunch you can head over to Maisha spa where you can enjoy the jacuzzi, sauna or steam to relax. You can also go for a couples massage, which should take care of all those kinks from that stress you have been carrying around.
Wind down the day with a drink/pool side dinner at the magnificent pool. The combination of the pool and the sound of the waterfall makes you feel like you are at rhe beach๐๐พ.
The next time you are in Kampala or if Kampala is home and you are in need of a romantic getaway without going too far, Kampala Serena has enough to offer which will most certainly make you fall in love again๐๐๐. I can’t wait for my next visit๐๐๐พ.
